This program traces a poetic and musical arc through contemporary American choral writing, weaving together reflections on nature, spirituality, and the inner journey. Texts by Robert Frost and W. B. Yeats anchor the program in rich literary tradition, while spirituals and modern poetic voices expand the emotional and expressive scope.

Houston Cecilia presents a program celebrating the richness of sacred choral music across centuries. At its center is Missa Brevis in D major, K. 194 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Composed in 1774, this “Short Mass” reflects Mozart’s early brilliance, blending clarity, elegance, and expressive depth in a concise yet radiant setting. Also featured is Mozart’s beloved Ave verum corpus, Agnus Dei by Samuel Barber, Sicut cervus by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, and Inviolata, by Gonzalo Ramos.
